The University of Cambridge, celebrating its 800th anniversary this year, decided to put Gömböc 1209 on permanent exhibit in the Whipple Museum of the History of Science. At the ceremony, being part of the 800th anniversary celebrations, Gömböc 1209 was handed over to Vice-Chancellor Professor Alison Richard by the inventors. Vice-Chancellor Richard expressed her approval that instead of picking serial number 800 the number 1209 has been selected. The latter, she explained, will be equally up-to-date when the university celebrates its next centenary and the subsequent millenium.
